Trust Wallet Extension Returns to Chrome Following $8.5M Exploit
Trust Wallet has reinstated its browser extension on the Chrome Web Store after resolving issues stemming from a December exploit that drained $8.5 million from users. The platform released version 2.71.0, which includes enhanced verification features to assist affected users in the claims process.
CEO Eowyn Chen confirmed the temporary removal was due to a Chrome Web Store bug during an update rollout. Google has acknowledged the issue and is working on a resolution. Chen warned users to remain vigilant against counterfeit extensions.
The attack, which occurred over Christmas, saw hackers distribute a malicious version (2.68) of the extension, compromising 2,520 wallets across multiple blockchains. Trust Wallet suspects the breach may be connected to November's Shai-Hulud npm registry attack.
